ANDREAS DOBER
catena
After the boom in quartz watches in the 80s, the German designer Andreas Dober returns to the traditional mechanical clock with a striking mechanism with his wall clock Catena (catena is Latin for chain). He juxtaposes the classic technology with a surprising, ironic design of the time display: copper numbers are mounted on a chain borrowed from bicycle technology, which move up to the hour and then fall down when their hour is up; But there is hope, because in 12 hours at the latest their time will come again. If you're looking for a clock that tells the time to the second, the Catena is a bad choice, but you'll certainly be bothered by its half-hour chime.
