ROBERT WETTSTEIN

The Zurich designer Robert Wettstein has made a name for himself since the 1980s and represents the new Swiss design. His designs are provocative and stand in contrast to the Swiss precision ideology. In order to understand the objects in question, a second look is usually required. In his designs, Wettstein experiments with atypical - often reduced - materials and interprets the form in an unusual way, without losing sight of the Swiss standard of perfection.
The "swan" swing lamp, reduced to the essentials, rocks on curved wooden runners. A geometric cuboid, which is covered with a parchment-like fabric, serves as the lampshade. Here too, Wettstein reduces his design to the simplest forms and materials, creating an intellectually questioning object.
