REBELLIOUS MAGNIFICANCE
design punk instead of Bauhaus
Exuberant decorations, bright colors and strange combinations of different stylistic elements – these are the design features with which a new generation of designers emerged at the end of the 1970s to rebel against the principles of “good form”.
Their daring opulence was specifically directed against the reduced, sober formal language of modernism. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Bauhaus, a central movement in European design history was presented at the Marta Museum in Herforde in 2019, which continues to amaze today with its radicality and playful use of materials, colors and shapes. The center of the exhibition was the “Anthology Quartet” collection, which is now located in the avant-garden archive in Dresden.
