box sofa

At its time (around 1800) the so-called box sofa was a modern sofa typical of the time that stood for the emerging functionalism. In Friedrich Schiller's house in Weimar you can find different versions of this model on all three levels. All seating furniture has steel suspension as a modern standard.

We chose the most reduced version, which is located in Schiller's personal reception room, the large attic room. The wooden supporting structure is architecturally visible as a pilaster strip and as a base that merges into the legs. What was provided with an additional decorative edge in the lower spaces of the models has been completely reduced and transformed into a smooth surface in our model.
